About Michelle Leavy

Michelle Leavy is an oil and acrylic landscape painter based in Falmouth, Maine. Michelle’s work is inspired by the natural beauty of Maine, with a particular focus on the everyday scenes that are often overlooked. Her work features landscapes, primarily depicting Maine and the surrounding New England states.

She works in oils and acrylics, often on birch panels, and she is particularly drawn to expressive brush strokes and movement in the paint. She frequently works with palette knives in addition to or instead of brushes to create a layered, textural surface. She paints on location in the summer and in the studio during the winter months.

Michelle grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in New York and Boston before moving to Maine in 2006. She loved painting as a child and began painting with oils when she was nine, taking classes through the local arts organization. She studied art as an undergraduate student at Columbia and continued her education through classes at the Maine College of Art after moving to Maine. Her work has been exhibited at the Maine College of Art, the Falmouth Memorial Library, Prince Memorial Library in Cumberland, the Yarmouth Art Festival, and other art festivals.

In addition to her work as an artist, Michelle is an epidemiologist, working primarily on issues related to improving treatment outcomes in mental health. She completed her undergraduate education at Columbia College and her graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Falmouth with her husband and two children and tries to spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors.
